HOME VISITING AND BEFRIENDING SCHEME
The Scheme was set up to help alleviate some of the isolation that may be caused by visual impairment.
The scheme is particularly important for example in a situation where someone has very little contact with friends and family.
A home visitor may help in many different ways, from visiting for a cup of tea and a chat through shopping, outings and practical help such as reading mail and dealing with correspondence.
Much depends of the needs and interests of each visually impaired person and therefore considerable effort is put into matching them to a suitable volunteer. Many of our volunteers and members become firm friends and often take part together in our Sports and Leisure activities.
Since our home visitors are volunteers we ensure that their out of pocket expenses are paid by the Association.
