TRAVEL CONCESSIONS
Travel Permits (Gold Card)
- The Permit allows you to travel within Derbyshire at reduced rates, provided you are a Derbyshire resident.
- You can obtain one free of charge from your local District and Borough Council. They are valid for travel by bus or train, but there are some limits as to when you can use them.
- You will need a passport size photograph of yourself.
If you are registered blind
You will be entitled to free travel.
If you are registered partially sighted
You will be entitled to half price travel.
If you travel outside the county
you may use your pass within a limited area, provided your journey begins and ends in Derbyshire.
Blue Badge Scheme
- If you are registered blind, you are entitled to a Blue Badge for use in any car you travel in.
- Application forms are available from your local Social Services Department.
Social Car Scheme
- Local Volunteer Bureaux often organise Social Car Schemes with volunteers using their own cars. If you don't know how to contact your local Bureau, contact DAB.
- You have to book the service in advance. They charge you only for fuel costs
Community Transport
- Offers accessible transport at a relatively low cost, for those who cannot use public transport. It can be used for shopping, social trips, or appointments.
- It may also be possible to arrange for an escort to help you on such outings.

Disabled Persons Rail Card
If you are registered blind or partially sighted
- You are entitled to a Railcard. It gives one third off the price of many British Rail fares both for you and an adult travelling with you.
- There is an annual charge for the card of £14.00 (as at Mar 2001).
- A booklet about rail travel for disabled people, including an application form, is available from most staffed stations, or from DAB
