News: DAB in the News

DAB has been in the news this past week as a mini media storm erupted around one of our longest serving volunteers. Cliff Beck and his guide dog Nick found themselves on BBC East Midlands after Derby City Council had told Cliff he couldn’t continue collecting money from his traditional spot in the Eagle Market due to fire risks.
An article from the BBC with a brief clip of Cliff’s appearance on East Midlands Today can be viewed here.
The story first broke when Cliff was being interviewed after he was nominated for a well deserved community champion award by BBC Derby. The Derby Evening Telegraphs portrayal of events can be viewed here.
You can read more about Cliff’s Community Champion award here.
Despite the media reaction DAB are delighted to say that Derby City Council has been excellent in helping us to find a solution to the problem. Cliff is back in the Eagle Market inside the Mobility at Home stall collecting change and raising more money than ever thanks to his new local celebrity status. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the great people at Mobility at Home for all of their help as well as the Eagle Market traders for their continued great support of DAB and Cliff.
