AWARENESS TRAINING

The Association provides awareness training on visual impairment for its own staff and volunteers and for people from other organisations.

The programme includes an understanding of the more common eye conditions, issues associated with visual impairment such as social disability and equality, and practical guiding and communication techniques.

Staff from both public and private sector organisations receive training which is specifically designed to equip them with the skills they require to meet the needs of their visually impaired customers or clients.

SCHOOLS AWARENESS

The Association raises awareness on visual impairment in colleges, and in primary and secondary schools throughout Derbyshire. A range of techniques such as talks, discussion and drama are used to meet the needs of students and to fit into the curriculum.
