Rehabilitation

DAB are proud to hold the Derbyshire County Council contract for provision of rehabilitation services across the county.
DAB has three well qualified rehabilitation workers who are specialists in the practical aspects of visual impairment. They offer professional assessments of individual needs and provide rehabilitation training. They will work with people in their own home, work place or outdoors to offer support and advice.
Examples of some of the services rehabilitation workers can offer visually impaired people and carers are:-
A specialist assessment
Training programmes to develop independence
Techniques to enable existing vision and other senses to be used to the best advantage
Demonstration of a range of specialist equipment
Instruction on safe cooking methods
Marking cookers and other appliances
Teaching communication skills, eg, Braille, keyboard skills, use of telephone and deaf/blind manual
Advice on lighting and use of contrast in the environment, eg, task lighting
Help to demonstrate the use of magnifiers
Mobility and orientation training
To obtain any of the above services, the person must first be assessed by Social Services. Initial contact can be made by phoning Call Derbyshire on 08456 058 058.
For a similar service, Derby City residents should contact their Social Services on 01332 717777.
