Befriending

Our telephone and home visiting services provide social contact and friendship for visually impaired adults living in Derby City and throughout Derbyshire.
This service can be very important for preventing isolation and even depression in visually impaired people, particularly for those who spend a lot of time alone. Many friendships last for months and even years and can open up people's lives and help them to become more independant.
We match a friendly, trained volunteer with the visually impaired person for either a visit or a telephone call once a week. Home visiting activities may include:
- A friendly chat from someone who understands
- Assistance with reading
- Sewing on a button
- Going out for a walk, drive, social activity.
